KONE
David J. Cord has written for the elevator and escalator company KONE for many years, both directly and through content providers. Besides writing articles he has contributed to special projects.
Below are a few examples of his work.
In the 2018 Urban Journeys stakeholder magazine he had several articles, including:
- Keeping people on the move at the world’s biggest sporting event
- Growing with green credentials
- Nightshifts and bespoke solutions for a Brisbane icon
- On top of the world.
Basefarm
Basefarm, an Orange Group company, is a European managed service provider. David J. Cord ghost writes for their blog, writes and edits material for their main website, and edits and co-translates content for their datacentre website.
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland’s communication department is one of David’s oldest clients. Primarily he writes articles for the thisisFINLAND website, but on occasion he also edits content for them.
David was involved in a major project to move the Ministry’s old content to a new website, as well as add more languages to their portfolio. In the process he was one of the first persons to discover how to post Arabic language articles in their new system, and now the tradition remains that he posts the Ministry’s Arabic articles. David is by no means an expert in Arabic script in backend systems, but it is one example of the effort he makes in finding solutions to satisfy the client, even in unusual circumstances.
Below are a few reference articles:
Wärtsilä
Wärtsilä is a 185-year-old technology company focusing on the energy and maritime sectors. David writes many articles for their Twentyfour7 stakeholder magazine. He lives near Wärtsilä’s new head office and is often called upon to be an in-house journalist and cover their events.
Sitra
The Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra is a public foundation, a ‘think-and-do tank’ which works for the future of Finland. David writes original content, edits Sitra-produced material and covers some of their events, particularly those related to the circular economy. Below are two examples of his articles, but you can see most of his Sitra portfolio here.
Stora Enso
The Finnish-Swedish Stora Enso is one of the largest forestry companies in the world. David primarily helps with their sustainability communications, including press releases, web pages and internal documents.
The Nordic Finance Group
The Nordic Finance Group is an umbrella term for three international financial institutions: the Nordic Investment Bank, Nordic Development Fund and Nordic Environment Finance Corporation. David writes articles on the institutions’ work to finance sustainable growth, such as the following stories:
Förlaget
Förlaget is a Swedish-language publisher in Finland, perhaps best known for being the home of Tove Jansson and her Moomin books. David helps Förlaget in special situations, such as proofreading English dialogue in a Swedish novel or translating portions of books from Swedish to English for international publishers, such as he did with Rafael Donner’s Människan är ett känsligt djur.
Pro Bono work
David also volunteers writing, editing and translation services to non-profit organisations which have mandates important to him. These include the Jane Goodall Institute, the global wildlife and environment conservation organisation dedicated to saving chimpanzees, and the Finnish Association for Nature Conversation, which is the largest NGO for environmental protection in Finland.
Special projects
By its very nature, much of David’s work is confidential and examples can’t be publicly posted.
